Topiary Trio..."Daisy,Paeony & Rose"

I have just finished writing this pattern and am about to send out some orders to some retailers ...as before stockists who have my patterns will be able to get them from next week.

The pattern comes as a pre print or as an iron -on transfer.

 

 

I love Paeonies and have had good success in growing them although I lost a really beautiful one in the heat of last year.

Daisies too of course and Roses...

The David Austin Roses are beautiful this year...Graham Thomas has outdone himself once again.

My William Morris Cushion

I saw some William Morris prints in the Art gallery in Canberra earlier this year and I made a little sketch...here it is for you ....and below in a cushion ..the pattern will be available as a transfer with the Cottage Garden Threads included as an option..most of the stockists mentioned in the sidebar for Jane Austen stockists will be able to get it from next week.The threads are all from the new range of colours released by Cottage Garden at the AQM in Melbourne...beautiful!

Here is a slice thru the cushion panel...it features some of the man's poetry too..."I know a little garden-close set with lilies " .The cushion was made using a selection of Barbara Brackman / Moda range of William Morris fabrics. I'll try and get a better picture..it has a stitchery panel, a side gathered panel and a floral strip either side of the stitchery... raw edge and then bound with a peeper edging..very nice too.... well done Pam!

The "Jane Austen's Bonnet" Quilt update

Here it is then... a better picture of the quilt!

You will notice that this is really a mock up of scans of all the blocks with the quilting superimposed over the top...a little dodgy in places but gives a better view to you overall than a photo.

Bill from Westalee Rulers has made a nice plastic template set for the pattern 

for me, it comes  as an optional extra..(Paper templates are also supplied in the patterns)

The transfers work beautifully as the template for the central diamond.

The pack also comes with an optional Cottage Garden thread pack.

A list of participating stores who have patterns available is also included in the lists on the sidebar.

"Jane Austen's Bonnet" ...Fabric choices also Blanket Stitch Wheels... Notes about...

 

Above are a couple of JA Bocks in Lecien Floral Collection -Antique Rose Colours..one is stitched with the "Regency Bonnet" pattern from the quilt.

I will put up a list of Retailers in Australia who will have stocks of the patterns tomorrow.

The wheels above were worked as per the first set of instructions and then the outside edge was whipped with two strands of stranded cotton..just pulled gently each time with the thread being kept parallel with the fabric..a little tedious but worth the effort.!

I  have some photos but the engineer is away seeing to a large boiler at a Murray Goulburn factory in Koroit  and I have to get some instructions as to how to get the photos onto the computer..so more tomorrow.

Here is a rough drawing of some square Hollyhocks....see what you can do with them!! ...they were part of a design that I have been playing with.

Jane Austen's Bonnet Fabric Choices

We don't have a quilt shop here in this little town..more's the pity! so the search for fabric can be tricky.

Moda fabrics have some lovely fabrics by Barbara Brackman

The civil war range by Barbara  and the Hartfield range look really suitable.The blocks require toning ranges of fabrics.

The girls from Craft Haven in Berwick have kindly sent me some nice fabrics from the Lecien range (Mrs March) which will look beautiful too.

I am getting Pam to make some extra blocks up in different colours so all is well on the Jane front at the moment.I am looking forward to seeing the quilt completed now that the stitchery is almost done.More detail soon.Brenda

Critters, Bears,are Bears varmints or critters?

Are Bears varmints I wonder. Koalas, which are not even bears are not varmints.This is an embroidery from a bear I made a few years ago... ..Rupert I think.

I have a commission to remake the bears as a class for next year..just so the ladies from Sale know ...I'm on it !

Back from Weekend retreat day at Anam Cara...Shepparton

This was a very busy and eventful day...nice to catch up with Libby Richardson from Artsmart  and to meet Lisa Young from "Button Bliss". 

Libby had some of the blocks from her new block of the month to show...very beautiful... as one has come to expect. When I first met Libby a couple of  years ago she was just planning her move ..now the house is nearly finished. Well done that girl.

The ladies from Anam Cara made everyone feel special and wanted.

Pam from Cottage Garden Threads came with me to share the driving and to show her range of threads and the new  'Daisy Rosettes"cotton felt  range..so lovely and beautiful to applique.You might like contact your local Cottage Garden stockist and ask them to enquire about them from Pam. Below is a little flower made using a tiny scrap of the felt..I will put the method of construction into a leaflet .I am working on a cottage  applique using the cotton felt and am very excited by its possibilities.

 

I was able to explain some details of my new  "Jane Austen's Bonnet "  and I got some lovely generous feedback from the "Eventers" , nice to see some friendly and familiar faces too..Ann  won the "oldest" prize..and I wondered about that!

I have been stitching Bonnets, Gowns, and Posies...I have not been slacking off!

My new quilt:

"Jane Austen's Bonnet" ...being a fan since my teenage years(mercifully a long time ago!)...I thought I should present my own offering to the great woman's creative ability.

I will release this 20 block quilt at The Wholesale Quilt market at Jeff's Shed in Melbourne in November. The construction is using simple templates..the stitchery is very simple and relies heavily on the Cottage Garden Thread pack.

More news about it soon!I am quite  pleased with it ... not always able to say that!

So here we go with Bonnets, Reticules, Posies, Regency gowns, Feathers, window panes, and even some of my favourite quotes!
